What is the difference between Gut and Guilt?
Remorse and guilt are part of the same family, they are word-related. Both are emotional reactions to our actions. Gut and guilt are not part of the same family. They don’t even like each other.
A gut reaction is an intuitive and or instinctual reaction. It’s that knowing feeling, that aha moment, and that conscious awareness of truth.
One positive aspect of remorse and guilt is that it provides us with an opportunity to take a deeper look and perhaps alter our choices and create a healthier outcome the next time around. A negative aspect is that guilt is frequently used as a tool for manipulation. When guilt is involved, nothing feels good, sweet or calm.
When gut is involved, a peaceful feeling permeates our senses. When gut is involved, that harmonious feeling remains with us in relation to that particular choice. It’s a positive sensation that is with us now and will remain later.
So a gut reaction is peaceful and a guilt reaction is prickly.
Here’s how to apply your intuition when making a decision. I call it the Now & Later decision maker. Stand up, gently shake your hands out toward the ground. Sit down with both feet flat on the floor. Take a seven slow deep breaths through your nose. Now quietly observe your choices and consider which decision will feel good to you now and later when you reflect upon it. The Now & Later will serve you well!

When love is involved, or rather loving self…a decision that rests on guilt doesn’t stand a chance.

Landing in that space of honestly feeling love of self is a process. It continues to unfold throughout life as we take a deeper look within.

I’m kicking up my heels to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of MN by dancing this year at the seventh annual Dancing with the Twin Cities Celebrities on February 20th, 2016 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (This event was a huge success!)
