So if it’s a dog’s life, what kind of death is it? Good question to ask on the heals of losing our first dog, a shining light in our lives and an amazing, sweet companion.
My intuition is no super-hero but it sure did give me an emotional heads-up. I wasn’t the only one in my home sensing and seeing that something wasn’t right with our otherwise bouncy, happy, exuberant 10-year-old cavachon. So I took him..meaning Baci, to our trusty, sensitive-to-so-many-ailments vet.
They did a blood draw and hydrated our phenomenal dog Baci Boychelk (translation..kisses, loved boy) and brought him back to me to await test results. When the blood tests came back our vet joined me on the floor, where I sat trying to coax Baci to come out from under the chair where he huddled to avoid further tests. He was telling me something.
The blood tests pointed to serious..big-time-serious, liver issues. Months before his liver was calling out, sending an S.O.S. Baci had undergone an ex-ray, ultrasound and more and results indicated no cancer but liver dysfunction. So we loaded him up with natural stuff to boost his liver function. Still, he declined.
Fast forward two months, Baci is gone. Turns out he didn’t have liver disease, he was in the advanced stages of pancreatitis.
If you tune into my blogs on a regular basis you know that last week, my internet was down. Weird coincidence, so was I.
The day we euthanized Baci I made sure I had a few minutes alone with him before we proceeded. I told him that he was doing everything right. He was trying to survive but his body was not up for the task. Because he could not breathe, and because his prognoses was incredibly grim, we were going to help him into the light. I thanked him for being such a phenomenal family member and told him how much I loved him…and how much we all loved him, we were letting him go back..back to where he came from…the light.
I still look for him everywhere. As experienced as I am as a medium, I’ve sensed him only once, and let me tell you, his energy was exuberant. Honestly, I believe animals travel back to source, to the light faster than humans.
It’s all about the light.
Jason, Cole, Aaron, Sophia and I are so grateful for the love and light Baci brought to our family. Though it was short, we know that the time he spent with us filled us with such joy, we will forever be transformed.
When things don’t add up…
Makes me rethink my priorities. I love to write..and I love to read both books and people. The thing is, I love spending time with my family even more so I’m thinking that this blog may now be posted once per month.
